Derrig is a masculine name with Irish Gaelic origins, likely derived from the word "dearg" meaning "red." It may have originally been a nickname for someone with red hair or a ruddy complexion before evolving into a surname and later a given name. Derrig has a strong, compact sound that conveys masculinity and Celtic heritage. The name is quite rare as a first name, making it an uncommon choice that stands out. Its Irish roots make it appealing to families with Celtic connections seeking something distinctive yet culturally meaningful. While not appearing frequently in naming statistics, Derrig offers a bold alternative to more common Irish names, carrying connotations of vigor and distinctiveness through its connection to the vibrant red color.

A nautical name that blends modern and ancient, Nautus was chosen by actress Cameron Diaz and musician Benji Madden for their son in 2026. Likely derived from the Latin nauta, Nautus may be interpreted as meaning "sailor, seafarer, mariner" — though Benji Madden offered the more figurative interpretation of "voyager, navigator, one who embarks on a journey and fears not the unknown" when announcing his son's birth.

A one of a kind choice, Nautus might combine the appeal of ancient sounding names — such as Augustus, Titus, and Maximus — with the contemporary love for sea-inspired choices — like Ocean, Cove, and Caspian — with the on-trend sounds of names like Knox, Silas, Nash, and Atlas mixed in too.

It may also bring to mind the Nautilus, marine cephalopods, known for their large, spiral shells — also used as the name for Captain Nemo's submarine in Jules Verne's classic novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

With an easy-going and interesting sound, the surname-inspired Keyes might fit in with the likes of Hayes, Reese, Kai and Keegan. While Keyes has never appeared in the US stats, Key (perhaps as a variation of Kay or Kai) is given to a handful of boys each year.

Like many names, Keyes has a number of origins, one being from the Old English word cȳse meaning "keys" or "lock". As such, it is an occupational name, given to a locksmith or an important keeper of keys. Following its Irish roots, Keyes is an Anglicized form of MacAoidh or MacAodha, via McKee. This gives it the meaning "son of Aodh", or, more literally, "son of fire".

One other possibility is that it is a variation of Kay - one of the Knights of the Round Table - which might link it to the Welsh Cai, possibly derived from Gaius, meaning "to rejoice", though this origin is more contested.

Tedric is a masculine name with Germanic origins, representing a rare variant of Theodoric or Theuderic. These ancient names combine the elements 'theud' (people, tribe) and 'ric' (power, ruler), essentially meaning 'ruler of the people' or 'powerful among the tribe.' Tedric can be seen as a shortened, modernized version that maintains the strong consonant sounds of its ancient predecessor. While historically significant—Theodoric was the name of several Germanic kings, including Theodoric the Great who ruled the Ostrogothic Kingdom—Tedric itself remains quite uncommon. The name has occasionally appeared in English-speaking countries, particularly among families interested in Germanic heritage or medieval history. Tedric projects strength and leadership while offering the approachable nickname Ted or Teddy.

Hermin is a masculine name with Germanic roots, functioning as a shortened form of Hermann or Herminio. The name derives from elements meaning 'warrior' or 'army man'. Relatively uncommon in modern usage, Hermin appears primarily in Germanic-speaking regions and parts of Eastern Europe. The name's usage peaked in the early 20th century and has since declined. Hermin carries a classic, somewhat old-fashioned character, representing strength and tradition. It shares etymological connections with names like Armin and Herman. While not widely used internationally, the name maintains a niche presence in certain European communities. Its simplicity and historical connections give it a dignified quality despite its relative obscurity in contemporary naming practices.

Tullie is an uncommon masculine name that may have originated as a diminutive form of the Roman family name Tullius, famously borne by the Roman orator and statesman Cicero (Marcus Tullius Cicero). The name has Latin roots and may relate to the word 'tullius' meaning 'one who leads.' Alternatively, it could be a variation of Tully, which itself derives from the Irish surname Ó Tuallaigh. As a given name, Tullie has a gentle, somewhat playful quality despite its classical origins. It remained relatively obscure throughout history, never achieving mainstream popularity. For modern parents, Tullie offers an unusual option with subtle connections to ancient Roman heritage, appealing to those seeking a soft-sounding yet distinctly masculine name with historical undertones.
