Names That Mean My

A name with various meanings and possible origins, Orielle may appeal to those who like Ariel, Aurelia, Orla, and Oriana. As a Hebrew name, it is a variation of Oriel or Uriel, meaning "my light is God", while as an English name, it may derive from Auriel, likely inspired by the Roman Aureola, meaning "golden".

Alternatively, it could relate to the Old Germanic names Orieldis or Aurildis, meaning "fire-strife", or to the French oriole which again means "golden", and is also given to a species of birds. As such, the name has a bright, glowing image, regardless of which route you follow, associated with light and golden hues.

Sabel is a feminine name with multiple possible origins. It may be a shortened form of Isabel or Isabella, names derived from the Hebrew Elisheba meaning "God is my oath." Alternatively, Sabel could relate to the Latin "sabulum" meaning "sand" or "gravel." In some contexts, it appears as a variant spelling of Sable, which refers to the luxurious dark fur or the color black. The name has a sophisticated, streamlined quality compared to its longer counterparts. While never extremely common, Sabel has appeared occasionally throughout naming records, appreciated for its brevity and elegant sound. The name carries a certain mystique with its potential connections to both royal heritage (through Isabel) and natural elements (through sable/sand), making it both distinctive and subtly familiar.

It does have less formal nicknames Eppie and Hepsie, which seem revivable. Hephzibah "Eppie" Cass/Marner is the heroine of George Eliot's novel Silas Marner and Hepzibah Smith is a witch in the Harry Potter series.

A lyrical Welsh name with both poetry and ruggedness, Myfanwy can mean "my fine, delicate one", "my woman", or "my beloved", depending on whether you consider the second element as derived from manwy, banwy or annwyl. While the pronunciation (muh-VAHN-wee) wouldn't be intuitive to those unfamiliar with the Welsh language or with Welsh names, the name is given to a small handful of babies in its native Wales most years.

Notably appearing in a 19th-century song by Joseph Parry and a poem by Richard Davies, the name was also borne by the 14th-century noblewoman and poetic subject, Myfanwy Fychan. Other Myfanwys include poet Myfanwy Haycock and actresses Myfanwy Waring and Myfanwy Talog.
