Names That Mean Ash

A dashing last name that combines a number of popular elements, Dashwood is a literary choice appearing in Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. It also feels connected to nature, and gives you the option of nicknames Dash and Woody.

The name itself derives from an Old English place name, Ashwood, meaning "wood of ash trees". After the Norman Conquest, in the 11th century, the preposition de was added to the place name, and over time, they merged together to form Dashwood.
