Mailen

Mailen is a variant of Majlen or Majlena, a rare Swedish and Norwegian name which blends "Maj" and "Lena" together. The name has seen increased usage since 2017, following the release of the video game "Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds", which features a character called Mailen.

Maj is the Swedish word for the month of May, and associated with the Goddess of fertility and motherhood, while Lena means "light" or "torch". Mailen could therefore mean "Mother's light" or "Light of May".

Influenced perhaps by the game or by the popularity of Maya and Amaya, Mailen was a fast rising name in 2023. Given to 120 girls, it almost doubled in use since 2022.

Pronounced MY-len.

As of October 2026, Mailen ranked #5498 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #1717 in 2023.
