Nal
About Nal
A Slovene choice that periodically appears at the bottom of Slovenia's Top 100. It first appeared on the Slovenian charts in 2011, when parents started using Nal for its on-trend sounds. However, Nal has no etymological roots in Slovene.
Based on other Slovenian choices such as Tai, Maj, Maks, and Lan, it is likely Nal emerged as a diminutive form, possibly of Nikola or Nikolaj ("people of victory"), Nathaniel ("gift of God"), Arnold ("eagle power"), Kornel ("horn"), or Manuel ("God is with us", or as a masculine form of Natalja ("born at Christmas"). This however is all conjecture.
Another possible source is from the Sanskrit Nala or Kunala, meaning "stem" and "lotus" respectively.
Pronounced NAHL.
Editor's take: The name Nal is a boy's name of Slovene origin.
