Aemond Origin and Meaning

The name Aemond is a boy's name meaning "rich protection; hidden one".

Familiar but fantastical, Aemond is a fictional creation by George R. R. Martin for his A Song of Ice and Fire series and its spin off TV show, House of the Dragon. Known as Aemond One-Eye and Aemond the Kinslayer, his name could be a form of Aemon or Amon, meaning "the hidden one" in Greek, or perhaps more likely, a spin on Old English Edmund, inspired by Irish Eamon, meaning "rich protection".

The name first appeared in the US stats in 2023 and again in 2024, when it was given to 12 boys. The similar Aemon (also form G.R.R Martin's series) is also in use.
