Boy Names

Austin is one of the most attractive city names for babies, with an appealing southwestern feel and place-name panache.
Austin has been an Anglo-Saxon surname and a first name since medieval times. Austin reached the Top 10 in the 1990s, but in 2022 slipped out of the US Top 100 for boys.
Literary namesakes include Austin Sloper in Henry James' novel Washington Square, and there have been several Austins in soap operas and films.
The Austen spelling is also used fairly evenly for boys and girls, sometimes as an homage to Jane Austen.

With its cool -X ending, Jax is an update on the classic nickname Jack, likely inspired by the rise of Jackson. It garnered attention in the US thanks to the game, Mortal Kombat II back in the '90s, and was pushed up the charts when it was used in the show Sons of Anarchy, in which Jackson "Jax" Teller is the central character.

Jax peaked in the US back in 2014 when it nearly reached the Top 200 and has since been on a slow decline. Across the pond in the UK however, it entered the Top 100 for boys in 2023.

A fresher spin on Jaxon, with built-in cool nickname Nix, and a great way to honor an ancestral Nick. But the association with disgraced former president Richard Nixon remains strong, which might explain why this otherwise bang-on-trend surname name has remained under the radar, peaking at #482 in 2017.
