Mercie

Mercie is a feminine name that evolved as a variation of Mercy, which originated as a virtue name during the Puritan era. While Mercy refers to compassion and forgiveness, Mercie softens the name with a French-inspired spelling that adds a touch of delicacy. This uncommon variant maintains the meaningful associations of the original while offering a slightly more ornate appearance. Historically, virtue names like Mercy were popular among Puritan settlers, but Mercie specifically has remained rare throughout the centuries. The name carries connotations of kindness, empathy, and tenderness. Its gentle sound and meaningful associations make it appealing to parents seeking a name with both substance and feminine charm.

Pronounced MER-see.
