Unique Names that Start With G

A bold word name, a grenadier refers to a soldier who throws grenades during battles. Originally, when it started being used as a term in the 18th century, it referred to those who threw hand grenades and required soldiers to be robust and physically strong.

Similar in sound to Gideon, Graham, and Greer, and in vibe to Hunter, Navy, Mariner, and Gunnar, it may appeal to those honoring someone in the armed forces. Derived from the French word for "grenade", it is currently a very rare choice.

Grenadier

A playful compound name, blending two German diminutive names, Greteliese is a whimsy mix of Grete and Liese, which ultimately derive from Margaret and Elisabeth. As such, it can be interpreted to mean "a pearl pledged to God" and could even be used as a nickname for a baby with the classic combination of Margaret Elizabeth.

As a standalone, it is a rare choice, but with the familiarity of Greta and Anneliese, it doesn't sound too out there. Gretelise is another spelling, notably borne by writer and journalist, Gretelise Holm.

Greteliese

A variation of the Arthurian Gawain, this form appears in the popular high fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. Names from this series like Arya and Daenerys have already appeared in the US starts and with Gwayne's similarity to Dane and Wayne, it may see some real life usage in the future.
