The name came into familiar usage back in the 19th century and peaked in 1980 when it reached #2 on the charts. With a range of nicknames such as Andie, Mandy, Ami, Addie, and Amma, it made for a versatile choice.
 
Now in decline, more recent stats saw Amanda remain just inside the Top 500 in the US, given to around 630 girls in a recent year. If you'd prefer something similar but fresher, you might consider the French Amandine or Shakespearean Miranda.
