Ridge may be the quintessential daytime drama name, but it's still better than most. This is one word name rising rapidly through the ranks, reentering the US Top 1000 in 2015 for the first time since 1989.

Aram is a popular Armenian name with a pleasing sound that became known in this country through the works of William Saroyan, namely the 1940 book of short stories, My Name in Aram, centering on Aram Garoghlanian, a boy of Armenian descent growing up in Fresno, California. Saroyan also named his son Aram. 
 Aram also appears in the bible as a son of Shem and grandson of Noah; it is also a biblical place name. 
 
While it is best known as an Armenian and Biblical name, meaning "child of the sun" or "highly elevated", Aram is in fact a more multicultural choice than that. It also has its roots in Kurdish and Persian where it means "calm, peaceful, repose", and in Thai, where it relates to the words for temple and monastery, glittering and illuminating.
 A well known bearer is Aram Khachaturian, the Armenian composer, while Aram is also the third day of the month in the Armenian calendar.

Familiar in the 19th- and early 20th-centuries, Alta is little heard today, but it does have that four letter, A-a formula of Alma, Alba, Anna, Ayla, and Anya. Derived from the Latin altus, it has an elevated meaning that might boost a child's confidence or reflect how much you value them. 
 
Occasionally used as a short form of Alberta, the name has been notably borne by poet Alta Gerrey and First Lady Claudia Alta "Lady Bird " Johnson. It is also a place name in Norway, Canada and the US.
 
A few things to bear in mind, which could explain why Alta is currently rare: it may remind English speakers of the words "alter" or "altar", and in turn, alternatives and alter-egos, along with religious rituals, offerings, and sacrifices. Additionally, in Spanish, alta is the feminine word for "tall", which could make it harder to wear.
