Names That Mean Poetry

This Old Norse girl name has a lovely meaning and a familiar yet distinctive sound.

Edda

This old-fashioned word for poetry has some antiquated charm but doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Poesy

A lovely and lilting Estonian word name pronounced "looh-leh" — Luule is as sweet as they come.

Luule

Octave shortens Octavius to a more manageable length, keeping the "eighth" meaning. In English speaking countries, however, people could easily confuse this with the musical and poetrry term octave. This, however, might not be considered a bad thing, or even an accident. Cadence, Lyric, Poem, and Anthem had seen increased interest, so why not this musical word?

The name appeared in the US stats in 2024 for the first time since the late 60s, when it was given to 6 boys.

Octave

Brage is the modern form of Bragi, the Old Norse god of poetry. It derives from bragr, meaning "poetry" or possibly "first, foremost". Like his fellow god Odin, Brage appeared in Norway's Top 50 names in a recent year.
