Valfreya Origin and Meaning

The name Valfreya is a girl's name of Norse origin meaning "Freya of the slain".

Valfreya might sound a bit like a blend of Valerie with rising star Freya, however, it actually appears in Norse mythology. An alternative name given to the goddess of love, beauty, war, and death, it combines freyja meaning "lady" with valr meaning "slain", it refers to Freyja's claim on half of the heroes killed in battle. While Odin collects the other half, Freyja's share are brought to her realm in the afterlife, known as Fólkvangr.

Valfreya is very rarely used as a given name.
