Erle Origin and Meaning
The name Erle is a girl's name of Norwegian origin meaning "chieftain, nobleman".
A relative of the English Earl, and a feminine form of the Norwegian Jarl, Erle is a popular choice in Norway where it ranks in the Top 100. It is notably borne by figure skater Erle Harstad.
In English speaking countries, Erle may simply be used as a spelling variation of Earl, however.
