Also appearing as Äigerım, Aigerım, and more rarely, Aygerim, Aigerim is a evocative Kazakh name, created by the poet Abai Qunanbiuly as an affectionate nickname for his wife Shukiman back in the 19th century. It combines the elements ay and karāma, meaning "moon" and "wonder, noble, miracle, generous" respectively. 
 
Used predominantly in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, it was particularly popular back in the 90s and early 2000s, when it ranked in the Kazakh Top 100 (in multiple different forms). Notable bearers include poet Aigerim Tazhi, footballer Aigerim Aitymova, and human rights activist Aigerim Seitenova.
