Lucifer and Lilith have seen increased use in recent years, and now, Stolas has joined the collection of darkly mystical names. First appearing in the Ars Goetia, a 17th century textbook of magic, Stolas is a prince of hell who commands legions of demons, while also teaching astronomy. He appears as an owl with long legs, but also as a man and raven.
 
More recently, the name has appeared in the animated series Helluva Boss and subsequently made its debut in the US charts in 2024 when it was given to nine boys. 
 
Also known as Stolos, Stoppas, and Solas, the demon's name might derive from either: the Latin word for "alone" (solus); from a type of robe known as a stola; from stella to reflect his knowledge of the stars; or the Greek stólos meaning "fleet" in reference to the devilish legions he commands. These however are just theories and the exact meaning is unknown.
