Kaior
Kaior Origin and Meaning
A totally modern sounding choice, Kaior is reminiscent of a number of contemporary choices, from Kai to Kyaire, and Kyzer to Bryer. As such, it saw increased interest in 2024, when it was given to 31 boys in the US, compared to 6 the year before.
A name with multiple possible origins, Kaior could be considered a modern invention, blending popular Kai with fashionable Dior, with could give it the meaning "golden ocean". As such, it may be inspired by Jamaican entrepreneur, Keyshia Ka'oir Davis, who also used the name for her daughter's middle name in 2023.
Alternatively, it may be viewed as a variant of the Maori name Kaiora, meaning "ocean life" or "healthy, impressive", or as a form of Kior, another rising choice in 2024, which could be a short form of the Biblical Melchior, meaning "king of light".
Originally used nearly exclusively for girls when it entered the US stats back in 2017, it first ranked for boys in 2022. In the most recent count, it was split around 70:30, still leaning feminine but on the rise for boys.
