Brontes Origin and Meaning

The name Brontes is a boy's name meaning "thunderer".

A tempestuous name from Hesiodic Greek mythology, Brontes was one of the three Cyclopes born to Uranus and Gaia, who notably made Zeus his thunderbolt weapon. Associated with strength and power, in some versions of Greek mythology they are also responsible for making other weapons, such as Poseidon's Trident.

Others may associate the name with the Brontës, the trio of literary sisters, Charlotte, Emily, and Anne, who wrote Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

A rare choice as a given name, writer Brontez Purnell is one bearer with an alternative spelling.
