Top Baby Names in the UK for 2019

The top baby names in the UK for 2019 are here — break out the bunting!

The Office of National Statistics has just released the top baby names in England and Wales for 2019. Oliver was the top boy name for the seventh year running, and Olivia was the top girl name for the fourth year.

The Top 10 lineup didn’t change for boys, but for girls Freya and Lily moved in, replacing Emily and Ella. This is the end of an era for Emily, which has been in the Top 10 since 1984.

New (or returning) entries to the Top 100 are Alfred, Chester, Hudson, Ibrahim and Oakley for boys, replacing Alex, Dexter, Dominic, Kai, Sonny and Tobias; and Lara and Mabel for girls, replacing Aisha and Francesca. There are some true vintage revivals here: Mabel last appeared in Top 100 in 1924, and Alfred in 1944.

Tommy and Hallie were the highest-rising names within the Top 100. Other notable climbers within the Top 100 include the royal prince’s name Louis for boys, and Bonnie, Ada and Arabella for girls.
