I'm always making lists of names I like so I thought it would be fun to turn it around and list names I personally don't care for. It's only my opinion however and you never know, you might just find a name you really like among the ones I don't. Enjoy!
- Beulah
Origin:
HebrewMeaning:
"married"Description:
In the Bible, Beulah is a place, not a person, applied to the land of Israel by the prophet Isaiah. The land of Beulah has sometimes been considered a reference to heaven. Beulah began to be used as a given name in England at the time of the Reformation and was used by the seventeenth century Puritans.
- Emmylou
Origin:
Combination of Emmy and LouDescription:
There's only one: Emmylou Harris, the singer who gives dignity to an old-style combo name.
- Mildred
Origin:
EnglishMeaning:
"gentle strength"Description:
When scientists do research on the effects of an unpopular name, we're afraid that Mildred is one of the examples they cite, often in tandem with Bertha and Gertrude. But with cute nickname Millie on the rise, anything's possible.
- Pansy
Origin:
English flower name from FrenchMeaning:
"thought"Description:
Pansy is an early floral name that lost credibility when it became a derogatory slang term for gay people. Better these days: Posy or Poppy.
- Quincy
Origin:
French from LatinMeaning:
"estate of the fifth son"Description:
Quincy is a Presidential surname name that actually sounds both cute and strong when used for a girl. While it's still outside the Top 1000, over 200 baby girls were named Quincy in the US in 2021, up from about 100 a decade before. While there are two times as many boys named Quincy, it has now become a genuinely unisex name.
- Salmon
Origin:
Animal nameMeaning:
"salmon, a fish"Description:
Possibility for fish enthusiasts, but works better for a boy.
