Last week, Toronto’s Alex Davey released the Hipster Baby Name Generator. I’m obsessed with the generator’s small batch baby names. How great are Scout Fitz Perry, Blanche Alette Lulu, and Edith Lemon Tulip?
It’s a great name, but it’s a classic, used steadily throughout the English-speaking world for generations.
This month saw some high-profile baby name announcements, like those of Scarlett Johansson and Savannah Guthrie, and also such surprising choices as Saint Laszlo and Kiki-Kate. Rocker Dave Grohl chose the Shakespearean Ophelia for his third daughter, following more conventional choices, and fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff pulled a gender switch when she named her daughter Bowie Lou.
Here’s CaraMichelle’s full roster of starbabies born in August:
Omré (Oritsé Williams and AJ Azari)
Here, the comprehensive list of new babies born to celebs in the month of July. You’ll find Kelsey Grammer’s sixth child (named, surprisingly, Kelsey), a girl named Germany, the Game of Thrones character name Daenerys, a girl middle-named James for her star grandpa (James Caan), Nic Cage’s grandson, and Jimmy Kimmel’s choice of the sweet, plain Jane.
Here is the latest edition of CaraMichelle’s invaluable, comprehensive, monthly list of new starbabies, allowing us to get a broad picture of what’s new in the celebrisphere– the A-listers and beyond. (Thanks as always, Cara!)
Nameberry exclusive! Sophia and Jacob are the new Number 1 names, according to the headline of a press release posted briefly on the Social Security website and just as quickly taken down. A sharp-eyed Berry alerted us to the possible leak. The Most Popular Names 2011 announcement was supposed to have been made today, but was postponed until Monday morning on The Today Show. But Nameberry may have just scooped NBC, thanks to our wonderful Berries! xxxx
And now on to our regularly scheduled program. This year, Nameberry says Happy Mother’s Day by saluting the best baby-naming celebs who have become moms since last Mother’s Day–some for the first time, some not. We’re staying away from the more extreme choices (so sorry, Mariah and Beyonce and Jessica), in favor of those that have shown an elegant sense of style, a degree of creativity–and in a few cases some ingenuity by unearthing some great buried treasures.
