Names a la Mode: Fashion icon names

Want to give your baby a name that truly telegraphs a sense of style?  One way is by going directly to the world of high fashion: representing several different cultures, the names of many twentieth century fashion design icons prove to be exceptionally distinctive, diverse, creative and inspirational.  Here are the Nameberry picks of best designer names:

Thierry Mugler

Picture 12 of 12

This totally original French designer presents stylized superwoman images featuring sharp, broad-shouldered silhouettes, giving him the epithet translated from the French as “creator of shock.” The name Thierry, which is megapopular in France, is pronounced much like Terry, but with a slight twist: tyeh-REE.

I find Paco irresistible! But I really liked the inclusion of Thierry; I’ve been thinking about using it as a middle name to honour my dad, Terence.

I love the names Paco and Kenzo, but much more as nick names then full names. Like a boy named Kenneth and called Kenzo, or Patrick called Paco! Although Paco was one of my nephew Jasons many nicknames when he was little.

Also, I totally want that dress on image 3!

Surprised not to see Vivienne Westwood, Elsa Schiaparelli or Betsey Johnson.

I love fashion, but I’m not really loving any of these names.

Love Coco Chanel, but I’m planning on using her birth name Gabrielle , which I love as much as I love her for it French flare and femininity, instead of Coco, although I might opt for the latter as a nickname.

I like Kenzo a lot, and Kenzie, for a boy. Totally handsome.

love zandra rhodes – the person, not the name. and i went to school with a boy named hardy…but his last name was cox. so, um…definitely think twice about your last name before giving your son the name hardy (this comes from much experience).
