Can we use it if it's the name of our street??

Hubby and I live in a little quite suburban street and intend on being here for at least 10 years, maybe forever. We've our first on the way, and if it's a girl, our clear favourite name is Finlay. Problem is, we live in Finlay St.

Can we give our daughter the same name as the street she'll live in? I don't know if she'd love it and think it was really cool, or if she'd hate it, get teased at school, and all our neighbours and family would think we were weirdos.

We don't want anything too popular or too girly; something fresh and fun that can be shortened to a good nickname. Finlay ticks all the boxes and we absolutely love it. I've thought about spelling it a different way (Finley or Finnley) but think that would just be confusing. If we were to do it, we might as well embrace it.

If you both love it, then go for it! What could be cooler than having a street named after you? Believe me, my 4-year old daughter would love to live on a street named after her. It's endearing!

I personally wouldn't my child after the street on which I lived, but that's just me. If it doesn't bother you, and you don't think it would have bothered you to grow up with your street's name, then definitely use it. :-)

I grew up on a street called El Arbolita so I can't imagine being named after that! But maybe if I'd liked the name. My husband and I have moved a lot, so I will think of a street I liked...Cedarbend was pretty. But I like classic names. There's a street called Ramona in the city where we live now, and our city is so cool and fun, that everyone would love the idea of a little girl named Ramona growing up on Ramona. There's another street called Diamond. That would work, too.
Actually, this is SO amazing. My dad's name was Kenneth and for many years when he was young, he lived on a street called Kenneth Road in Glendale, CA. It was a very fancy street when I was young, but they lived in an old farmhouse in the '30's. I never realized that before-that he had the same name as the street. He went by Kenny back then. He certainly never said anyone teased him about it.

Haha how funny, I think about this all the time because I live in a neighborhood filled with streets that have cool, interesting, or recently trendy names. I live on the intersection of Ramona and Everett, the streets around me are, Alma, Willow, Clover, Bryant, Addison, Emerson,....it goes on and on, and the park that I live by is Edith Eugenie park. So many names everywhere I look :) I think you can totally do it!

I feel kind of bad saying this, because it is your clear favorite name, but I know that if I received your birth announcement, I would find it strange. Now, if I'm thinking back on it frankly, I know that the child me would have been delighted to see my name on a street sign. However, this form of nomenclature really reminds me of that "formula" to come up with your pornstar name (name of first pet + name of street you grew up on). Also, for some reason, I keep picturing letters posted to your daughter, and imagining the address written out seems very strange.
That said, it is of course up to you, and if it's the name that you absolutely love, it's probably the one you should use.

I say go for it...it's not easy finding THAT name that you just love....if it makes you smile when you think about it and you both love it....then do it!
