2 "ell" ending names too "twinny"?

    Hello!

I'm expecting twins (not sure of sex), but many of my preferred girl names have similar endings, though the rest feels distinct.

Do names that have a "Gabrielle and Ariel" vibe feel too twinny? Or are the beginnings distinctive enough that nicknames and all that will take different angles?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

I think it depends how you pronounce them. I say "Gab-ree-EL" and "AIR-ee-uhl", so they don't rhyme for me. However, if you are saying "air-ee-EL", then i think they are too twinny.

I think Gabrielle and Ariel are lovely choices! I really like them together. They are distinct enough from each other with just the right amount of matchy-ness in my opinion. Good luck <3

Like kipperbo1, I'd pronounce the endings of Ariel and Gabrielle slightly differently (Air-ree-uhl and Gab-ree-elle) so i don't think they're too matchy. Gabrielle and Ariel work

If you are concerned, a possible variation might be Gabrielle and Arianne.

Thank you all! The pronunciation, and how the spelling cues it, was something I hadn't considered.

They sound find together imo. Personally, I find that two is just coincidence, three is a pattern, so if you had a third child named Isobel or Ezekiel or Danielle, then I'd find it too matchy, but even then, it's not that big of an issue. Gabrielle and Ariel work fine together.

I find them too similar/matchy. It's less so when using the traditional masc version of the name Ariel, as the emphasis is different than with the traditionally femme Arielle, but still too matchy for my tastes personally, particularly for twins.

Exactly this. I would pronounce Ariel air-ree-uhl, which is fine with Gabrielle. However, I do know some people who pronounce it aire-ree-el, which I would say is too similar.
