Daffodil is a lovely flower and a lovely name, but I agree with the Daffy comments. My first thought for a near-name is Jonquil. I've always found Jonquil a lovely name. I also like Anthea which means blossom in Greek. Iris is one of my favorites. Ivy is simple and sweet. Liatris is a unique choice, with Lia as a lovely nickname.

Love the suggestion of Saffron! Shares some sounds, as well as whimsy, with Daffodil without being too similar. If you didn't want to use just Poppy, it could be a nickname for Penelope. Polly is adorable for Penelope, too.

On The Artist, the girl went by Peppy as a nn for Penelope, Pepper is another cute option.
