Popular Names: Your 2011 predictions, please!
The official list of U.S. Most Popular Names 2011 will be revealed this Friday, and so in advance of that announcement, we’re asking YOU to predict:
What do you think will be the 2011 Most Popular Names?
Will Jacob and Isabella hold their top spots? Â If not, which names do you think will make it to Number 1?
What about the Top 10? Â There’s a prize (see below) for the first person to guess correctly!
In 2010, these were the Top 10 names for girls and boys:
girls
boys
How do you see the order shifting, if at all? Â Do you predict any names will fall off, or leap onto the Top 10 for girls or boys? Â (For the full list of 2010 Top 1000, see our Popular Names page.)

To make things more interesting, we’re giving away a fabulous personalized silhouette print from sarah + abraham to the berry who’s the first to correctly guess the 2011 Top 10 of each gender!
Above is a sample of one of the styles of sarah + abraham’s prints; see more of their art prints here. Â Sorry, but these can be mailed to the U.S. only.
Beyond the girls’ and boys’ Top 10s, care to make any bigger predictions? Â New names on the Top 1000? Â Names making the biggest leaps up the national ladder?

Samantha-Bianca Says:
Ava is definitely on the rise. It’s hard to say what’s going to be popular in the US because I’m in suburbian Australia, haha.
But Ruby has been crazy popular the last couple of years (because of popular Oz show Packed To The Rafters and maybe also the song of that name by The Kaiser Chiefs), so maybe it’s due for a boom in the US?
Is Ethan maybe going to drop a couple of places, I wonder…

I don’t know for sure the order, but I do predict Ava going down in popularity and Ella going up. I also think Henry may make it in the top ten this year.
caroline11278 Says:
I’m going to guess that Jacob will hold its spot at nimber one, but Isabella won’t, and will be replaced by Olivia. I know it’s a big jump from number four to one, but it is still completely possible. Look at how quickly Isabella rose to number one, for example.
rosierose Says:

Wild card: Potential for Liam to appear in the top 10 (or top 15). Definitely think Elijah has a shot for the top 15, and top 10 in 2012. On the girls side, I think Grace has a distant shot for the top 10, if not in 2011 then in 2012.
CrimsonCat Says:
william
aidan
ethan
jayden
jacob
noah
daniel
landon
mason
elijah
I met more little Williams this year I think because of our future King’s influence so I think it might be number one. I also know so many landon’s and elijah’s so i predict they will make the jump to to top ten. Other boys names that will jump are Lucas/Luke, Wyatt, Carter and Cooper and Casen-I have met two in the past month. C names were popular this year.
For girls, I will have to say we still love the girly classics so here is my guess:
Emma
olivia
isabella
sophia
madison
abigail
ava
sarah
elizabeth
Lily
While we like traditional girly names for girls I also think the gender neutral names /surname names will soar, like Avery, Delaney, Brynn, Charlie, Hadley, Payton, etc… Really traditional feminine names like Ruby, Charlotte, Mabel, Kate and Georgia will have made great strides too. Can’t wait to see the results.
rosierose Says:
Other wild cards: Jack or Jackson in the top 10.
I also think Beatrice has a shot to hit the low 700s or high 600s. I think Clara, Eden, Lila, Valentina, Harper, Kennedy, and Scarlett will all break the top 100. London and Ruby potentially too. I imagine Hadley will have shot up too.
JadeRain Says:
My guess is:
1 Isabella
2 Ava
3 sophia

2 Ethan
3 Aidan
4 Mason
5 Jackson
6 Noah
7 Henry
8 Liam
9 Alexander
10 Daniel
Sarah.Jane Says:
Without reading anyone else’s predictions I think that:
1) Jacob will fall easily out of the first spot.
2) Sophia will over take Isabella.
3) Emily will fall out of the top ten.
4) Emma will fall, but not quite out of the top ten.
I am not great at following trends, but I think William will climb higher.

7. Ella (up from 13)

9. Avery (up from 23)
10. Mia
I’m guessing that Abigail, Madison, and Emily have dropped out of the top 10.
Boys:
1. Jacob
2. Alexander
3. Jayden
4. Noah
5. Ethan
6. Michael
7. William
8. Mason (up from 12)
9. Jackson (up from 25)
10. Liam (up from 30)
I’m prediction Daniel, Aiden, and Anthony have dropped out of the top 10.
Practically every new baby I know is Jackson or Alexander. I don’t think we’re done with the “-aden”s, but they don’t rank as high as it seems they should since you count each spelling on its own.
Sarah.Jane Says:
I would also like to say that I think some names that have been out of the top 1000 for decades will creep back in.

For the girls, Zoe, Charlotte, Claire, Sophie, Ruby, Annabelle, Harper will all go up. K names (especially misspellings, a la Khloe) will begin to decline (or is that just wishful thinking?), and vowel names and L names will rise/stay popular.
For the boys, Logan, James, Gabriel, Liam, Julian, Wyatt, Sebastian, Henry, Oliver will all go up. O, X and Z names will continue their upward trend.
niteowl13 Says:
Sophia has to be #1. Most of the people I know that have had daughters recently have named their daughters Sophia. It seems to be the #1 girls name where I live.
I would think that Aiden would be higher, maybe even as high as #1 for boys.

For the girls, I’ve predicted the supplanting of Isabella by Sophia, swapped some of the places and predicted that Addison will enter the top 10, going up past Madison.
For the boys, I don’t see Jacob leaving yet awhile…sigh. There’s nothing wrong with Jacob, but a decade on top is surely enough. I’m predicting (probably wildly) that Jackson will enter the top 10. I sure know more little Jacksons than Anthonys!
Can’t wait for tomorrow’s announcement–maybe Jacob will be unseated by a dark horse!

5. Abigail
6. Olivia
7. Emma
8. Chloe
9. Mia
10.Ella
(If Zoey and Zoe were counted together, they would have been #10 last year! I definitely think that this name is one to watch out for in the future. I can easily see one of them breaking into the top 10 in a few years — especially if one spelling overtakes the other by a more considerable margin.)
Boys:
1. Jacob
2. Ethan
3. Jayden
4. Michael
5. Noah
6. William
7. Alexander
8. Aiden
9. Daniel
10.Anthony
GoodHope Says:
I don’t think we’ll see huge changes in the top 10, but there could be a few.
I think Sophia will take the top spot for girls, bumping Isabella down a spot, but Jacob will hold onto his crown for another year. I predict Noah will enter the top 5, perhaps displacing William, and Mason will enter the top 10 while Anthony falls out. Olivia, Chloe, and Mia could all move up. Emily, Abigail, and Madison are most likely to move down.
Charlotte, Eva, Amelia, and Stella will continue to move up as will Owen, Jack, and Levi. I can picture Estella & Truman entering the top 1000, too.
ksheja Says:
okay, these are my guesses for 2011 top 10.

8. Addison.
9. Ella.
10. Emily.
I think these names will move up: Jackson, Elijah, Logan, Landon, Gabriel, Liam, Easton.
Avery, Charlotte, Harper, Piper, Ruby, Clara, Lila, Isla, Lily…
It’s hard to try to predict these things by what’s most popular where you live, because it varies quite a bit from state to state.
I’d like to do these with combined spellings some time. . Zoe/Zoey, Chloe/Khloe, Lily/Lilly/Lillie,

OwlMist Says:
I think Imogene might finally be in the top 1000 within the next few years, if not this year.
notcinnamon Says:
Upward movement by a name within the Top 15 is quite difficult just because of the sheer volume and exposure of the names already there. Plus, on the girl side, there is a large gap in the number of children with a certain name down to the next name. Ex. There were 2300 more Isabellas (#1) than Sophias (#2) last year. On the boy side, you must factor in the widespread usage of traditional family names (Michaels, Williams, James, Andrews), etc. plus a smaller comfort zone (not as much brancing out). For those reasons, I don’t see a lot of change, although so many avenues of social media are causing names to jump up and down faster than they used to.
Girls- 1. Isabella (I think it will be extremely close, though). 2. Sophia 3. Olivia 4. Emma 5. Ava 6. Abigail 7. Emily 8. Chloe 9. Addison 10. Mia 11. Ella 12. Madison 13. Elizabeth 14. Lily 15. Natalie

When does the list come out?!
BlankPages Says:
Some big risers for girls in 2011: Aubrey, Scarlett, Brynn, Kendall, Katherine, Eva, Brielle, and Claire. Sophia will take over #1 for girls.
BlankPages Says:
And Mia will pop, too.
psychoski Says:
The list was supposed to come out today, but the SSA issued a Press Release (yeseterday) saying the announcement is postponed until Monday, when the SSA Commissioner appears on the Today Show. There is now a Press Release listed on their site with Monday’s date (5/14/12) titled: “Jacob and Sophia Take Top Honors on Social Security’s Most Popular Baby Names List”. The link to the release itself is not working, but those sound like sure bets for the top names.

I’ve been eagerly checking the SSA site, and haven’t seen it yet. I cleaned my cache. Hope I’m not missing something.
The #1 for girls has been volatile the past couple of years. After years of Emily, I think we had Emma, then Isabella. Was Sophia #1 in 2009? Never mind, I can check; I’m just lazy:)
I will do my best, here goes:
girls
Isabella
Sophia
Chloe
Emma
Olivia
Mia
Ava
Emily
Madison
Addison
boys
Ethan
Jacob
Jayden
William
Michael
Aiden
Alexander
Noah
Daniel
