Disney Names: Happy Birthday, Donald Duck!
Daisy Duck
Of course the party wouldn’t be complete without Donald’s girlfriend, Daisy. She was first known as Donna Duck when she appeared in the 1937 cartoon Don Donald, making her name change in the 1940 Mr. Duck Steps Out. Her name was one of the first flower names to re-bloom and still hasn’t wilted, now at Number 166.

I love the name Clara, it is one of my great aunts name. I always wanted a little girl named Clara Rose after Aunt Clara and Aunt Sis (real first name Rose)
I do love the name Dinah, but that girl would be tortured with the song lyrics “Dinah won’t you blow,” and I think that is too much for a teenager to handle. I had it bad enough when Christina Agulaira came out with her Genie in a bottle song, as my first name is Jeannie. Ugg.

There is a little girl named Dinah in my daughters preschool class! It is such a cute name, but I do think of the song…

Maybe it’s a Southern thing but Minnie makes people think of Minnie Pearl. When I mentioned Minnie to my mom her response was “Howwwwww- Deeeeee!”
Love Olive Oyl, still can’t stand the name Olive
Dinah is a pretty name but Dinah of the Bible is known for being raped (although it’s debated). There are a few lovely biblical names that I can’t separate from their negative stories-like Delilah- so maybe that’s why people shy away from Dinah

Dinah is one of my favorites! I can’t figure out why it’s not used more, either…

Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, and Olive Oyl were NOT Disney characters!!! Better rename this article “CARTOON Names:”

I love the name Dina(h) but in its original incarnation as a Jewish name, pronounced dee-nah. The real story of Dinah in the Torah makes for interesting reading, as you get the full rabbinical commentary.
I like Daisy and Clara, although I prefer Clare, as well as Felix, but Oswald is one of those iffy names for me. There was Oswald Bastable, intrepid adventurer and author (I’m probably the only person on this post who read the Bastables as a child) but there was also Oswald Mosley….
As people forget history, I guess Oswald might be ready for a comeback and a spiffier image for the name.
Could we do the same for Harvey and Horatio, I wonder?

Daisy is my grandmother’s name. I also like Oswald and Felix. Olive and Clara are cute. I prefer Dena to Dinah.

@penguin: Of course, you’re right. The blog was originally going to be all Disney, and the title never got changed.

I’m pretty sure Dinah hasn’t been used because of “Dinah won’t you blow, Dinah won’t you blow, Dinah won’t you blow your horrrrnnnn!”
Sassy Says:
While the title is a little misleading since these are not all Disney characters, I liked the cartoon characters. It would be nice to see more of these. ![]()
I like Daisy, Clara and Dinah but I can’t actually see me using any of them except maybe Clara but I don’t see Hubby going for it.
I had a Cabbage Patch Kid called Felix.

My great great grandmother was named Minnie and I think it’s positively adorable. I really love it. I also love Clara. It’s a perfect, old classic name that’s timeless. Yay vintage names coming back!!
Flick Says:
I love Clara, Felix and Olive….Ferdinand is cool, too. Some of them are way too cutesy, though.
Scrambledmegs Says:
I’ve always loved Dinah. She makes me think of Alice’s cat in Wonderland and Dinah Shore.
I also love Betty, Felix, and Olive. Delightful!

Daisy is adorable and I like Clara quite a bit, actually.
