Lisa Says:
#1 Isabella (based on the strength of the name BEFORE it came out as #1 last year, and then trailing off but keeping the lead)
#2 Sophia, #3 Olivia
#1 Jacob, #2 Ethan, #3 William (up on the strength of the nickname Liam)
Big leaps: Harper and Jaxon (or Liam, I know 4 of them and no Jaxons)
Out of the top 10: Abigail, Anthony
Twins: Olivia/Sophia, Addison/Aiden, Daniel/David
Washington state: Sophia will topple Isabella
Names4Real Says:
I don’t think the top ten will change too much. I think Isabella will still be number #1, but think Sophia will be #2.
I think Aiden will join the top ten and Anthony will drop out of it. Jacob will remain #1.
The highest risers I think will be Bentley for boys and Ruby for girls. Maybe Harper. Can’t wait to see.
spotlightstarlit Says:
1) #1 Sophia
#2 Emma
#3 Isabella
#1 Jacob
#2 Ethan
#3 Alexander
2) Claire & Stefan
3) Anthony
4) Olivia & Sophia
5) NC- William & Madison
Other Carolyn Says:
In Canada Olivia was the top name, followed by Emma, Sophia, Ava, Chloe, Abigail, Emily, Madison, Lily, Charlotte, and finally Isabella, ranking at 11. For boys it was Liam, Ethan, Jacob, Logan, Owen, Noah, Alexander, Nathan, Benjamin, and Lucas in the top 10. It looks like the -aden ending names are finally falling out of favour here, as well as Kaitlyn (which I’m surprised hung about so long in the top spot, given that I, a 21 year old, know seven of them) and Mikayla.
I expect the -aden names to be on the decline in the USA too, since there were so many rhyming names that people likely got bored of them more quickly. I also expect Ashley to continue a descent out of the charts, as many new mummys will have grown up with a handful of them. My suspicion is that many of Canada’s most popular names will be in the USA top ten, but in a different order. I think Zoe and Leah will make more gains as well, and Liam for the boys.
As for twin names, well, Olivia and Sophia at least *sound* nice together, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Emma and Emily in the top 10 again, or Taylor and Tyler, or something obnoxiously rhymey like that. Jacob and Ethan also sound pretty good together.
olivegreen Says:
I also don’t think the Top Three will change that much:
1. Isabella
2. Sophia
3. Emma or Olivia
1. Jacob
2. Ethan
3. Alexander
I think Lily or Ella could make it into the Top 10, while Abigail or even Emily will leave it. For boys, I’d be really surprised if Anthony isn’t replaced by Aiden.
Biggest leaps: For girls, I’ll guess Aliannah. I don’t watch 16 and Pregnant, but I see the mom w/ the twins, one of whom is named Aliannah, all over the tabloids whenever I’m at the grocery store. For boys, I think Emmett or Jasper will rise even further. Or possibly Bentley (also of 16 and Pregnant fame). And of course, I think Harper will keep soaring up the charts.
Most popular twin pairing: for b/g twins, Addison and Aiden; for g/g I think Isabella and Sophia will continue their reign. Same goes for Jacob and Joshua.
Most popular name in Georgia: Let’s hope Isabella unseats Madison, though I’m afraid Olivia (my name) could be a contender.
Olive Says:
I DEFINITELY think that Philippa will be a big hit, particularly in the UK, and Freya and Isla too. I also think that Lily will go up considerably in the US, along with Piper, Adelaide, Penelope and Eva, but none of them will be in the top 10, whilst Chloe, Emily, Madison and possible Olivia will go down.
For boys, I agree that Anthony will drop out, and Jayden and Micheal will go down, and Aiden will definitely rise, along with Logan and Elijah.
leah_9 Says:
I could actually see Jacob being replaced. Possibly by Alexander or William. Isabella will remain #1 and Sophia will move to #2. Lily and all its varients will move up as well. Aiden et al. will increase at well
trich323 Says:
Top: Ethan, Jacob, Michael and Sophia, Olivia, Isabella
Biggest Leap: Declan and Paisley
Out top 10: Anthony, Jayden, and Madison
Twins: g/g Chloe and Lily, b/g Liam and Lily, b/b Ethan and Aiden
Home state (Oklahoma): Ethan and Olivia
I really think Ethan will edge out Jacob on the national list, and it’s already top here in OK. Olivia will continue to rise on both lists too, but I think Sophia will be top nationally.
Anthony is already on his way down. I added Jayden too because I dislike it! I’m also hoping Madison will follow Addison off the top 10.
For biggest leap, I chose names that I’ve heard around a lot, including on this site, and that are trending up. It was hard to find a fast mover on the boys’ side. I think it will actually be something surprising that hasn’t moved at all for years. Atticus or somthing.
The twin lists were interesting! I haven’t looked at them before. I tried to pick combos out of the top 20 that hadn’t been used before and that I didn’t hate.
That was fun! Can’t wait to see if I got any of them right!
Tara Says:
Have to separate what I hope will happen with what probably will!
Top Boy- still Jacob, Girl: Emma will dethrone Isabella.
Ava will jump higher too I think,
Dropping out of Top 10 Madison, Anthony
Biggest leaps: Harper, Charlotte, Zoe, Ian
Aiden will definitely make the top 10.
Home state: New York
Girl: Emma or Sophia (not Isabella)
Boy: Michael (same)(but Ethan will jump higher than #4)
isabel Says:
Increasing:
Lily/Lillian
Charlotte
Henry
Max
Grace
I’ve met so many little Charlotte’s and Grace’s lately!! I think Sophia has a shot at no. 1.
babynamesrule Says:
I definitely think Sophia will kick off Isabella from no. 1. I also think Ethan will be replacing Jacob.
Biggest Leaps…hmmm…definitely Logan for a boy (met MANY of them this year,) and for a girl, Aleah/Aliya. (Also met many of them this year.)
anneNY Says:
I think the top girl name will either be Sophia or Olivia or Ava.
The top boy name will either be Aiden or Jaden.
In my state (NY) I think the girl name would be Mia, boy name Eli.
I think Quinn and Finn will make the biggest leaps.
I think Chloe will drop.
anneNY Says:
Twins: Ava and Mia
Aiden and Jaden
Tyler and Taylor
Amber Says:
Top 3:
William
Jacob
Noah
Isabella
Sophia
Emma
Biggest Leap – Asher or Henry for boys
Harper for girls
Dropping out of the Top 10 – Anthony and Abigail
Coming into the Top 10 – Aiden and Natalie
Top Names of Vermont – Owen and Ava
agirlinred Says:
Top 5 for boys: Jacob, Ethan, Alexander, Aiden, William
Top 5 for girls: Isabella, Olivia, Ava, Sophia, Emma
leah_9 Says:
When is the list going to be released?
Angela Says:
Didn’t think of b/g twin names Hunter and Emma.
Rachel Says:
I think the most popular names for girls will be Sophia, Isabella and Emma and for boys they will be Ethan, Alexander and Jacob.
I think Anthony and Madison will drop of the top 10.
I think Isla and Finn will make the biggest leaps but I also think Charlotte and Liam will rise a lot too!
Macy Says:
All I have to say is, thank you tv shows for making Quinn a girls name… seriously! Its down 20 places for boys and up several hundreds for girls
jenn Says:
i think olivia will be big as well as isabella and emma
Steph Says:
Here in Australia, Ella is VERY popular this year – we know 3 Ellas under the age of 6 months!
William and Thomas getting pretty common again for boys.
Aiden (or Aidan or Ayden) is also VERY popular.
1. Ella
2. Olivia
3. Sophia
4. Isabelle/Isabella
1. William
2. Aiden
3. Ethan
4. Henry
Biggest leaps: Charlotte, Tessa & Henry
Out of top 10 : Emily & Jacob
Twin Pairings: Olivia and William, Aiden and Emma, Isabella and Henry, Aiden and Tessa
stargazer4707 Says:
I know that LUCAS and LUCA will have drastic jumps in their numbers. This year alone I’ve known 4 new baby Lucas, and 3 Luca’s. Crazy.

I am going to go with the three most popular names in my home state in Australia.
Girls – Ruby, Mia and Chloe (Isabella was fourth)
Boys – Cooper, William and Jack (Jacob was twelfth)
Names with the biggest leap Ruby for girls and it was tied between Noah and Liam moving seven places up on most common names. Noah was the same place in 2008 and 2009, whereas Liam increased two places from 2008 to 2009 before its big jump. So Liam it is.
Names dropping from the top ten Olivia for girls and Joshua for boys.
No figures on twins so my guess is Sienna and Olivia for girls and Liam and Jacob for the boys.
