Simultaneously a name of Hindi and Sanskrit origin, a spelling variation of the popular Rowan and an anglicized form of Irish Ruadhán, Rohan is a cross-cultural choice.

As a Hindu name, it is associated with the deity Sri Vishnu, while more generally, it means "ascending" in Sanskrit and Urdu. As an Irish and Scottish name, it means "red, red-haired", although English influence has led to it being associated with the rowan tree.
