    Max or Maxwell

Our top name currently for a little boy is

    Maxwell Arthur James

It took us ages to agree on a name we both like but I'm slightly unsure on 'Maxwell' and would prefer just 'Max'. DH doesn't think that it sounds formal enough, and I do agree in a way. My pick would be Maximilian, but DH really doesn't like. He would go by Max anyway.

    Which is better?

    Maxwell Arthur James

I really like Maximilian and it flows best with your middle name choices so I vote for it. Maxwell is fine but a tad too trendy for my liking.

Thanks @handsallover for your feedback, it's not actually that popular in the uk- something like #125 off the top of my head, and I think Max is #18.

My best friend loves Max, but dislikes Maximillian and Maxwell, so she picked Maxton . From your choices, I prefer Maxwell.
