    Sister for Tirza

Baby #4, a girl, is due this July. Tirza (Hebrew place name, female) is our oldest, followed by Luke and then Liam (not twins). I'd like a name that goes with Tirza (pronounced TEER-zah) but doesn't sound too matchy. I'm not set on a "T" name, but we're considering the name Thea, pronounced TAY-uh after my great-grandma. I actually don't mind Thea pronounced as THEE-uh, but my husband doesn't seem to like it. Any thoughts?? How do all the names sound together? Any other name suggestions? Please comment. Thanks!

    Re: Sister for Tirza

Hi there! If you're looking for a girls' name for Tirza's sister, and you don't want it to be too matchy, I'd definitely stay away from Thea, as Tirza and Thea do feel quite matchy. (They begin with T, have two syllables, and and with an "uh" sound.) What about Theodora, which isn't matchy, but gives you the nicknames Dora and Thea?

This one is actually kind of hard, because while all three children have very lovely names, Tirza is Hebrew, Luke is a name associated with the New Testament, and Liam is Irish. Luke and Liam are of the same general style, but Tirza, a lovely, lovely name, is the unique, rarely heard (outside of Israel) name of the set.

Do you want your new baby's name to match with the style of Luke and Liam, or with that of Tirza?

    Tirza's style (Hebrew or exotic):

    Adina
    Avalon
    Aveline
    Abigail
    Ariana
    Aurora
    Delphine
    Daphne
    Eden
    Esme
    Elodie
    Francesca
    Gabriella
    Hollis
    Katarina
    Karenna
    Lila
    Liliana
    Mariel/Marielle
    Miriam
    Mina/Mena
    Melora
    Mariana
    Odessa
    Paloma
    Rafaela/Raphaella
    Raquel
    Shoshanna
    Simona
    Simone
    Sasha
    Scarlett
    Tovah
    Tamsin
    Theodora
    Talia
    Tatiana
    Viviana

Names that work with Luke and Liam:
    Amelia
    Audrey
    Alice
    Annabel
    Aveline
    Beatrix
    Bronwyn
    Clementine
    Celia
    Caroline
    Charlotte
    Diana
    Emmeline
    Eleanor
    Eliza
    Frances
    Genevieve
Georgia/Georgiana (I think Georgiana could work with Tirza, too)
    Helena
    Iris
    Josephine
    Juliet
    Louisa
    Matilda
    Miranda
    May
    Nora
    Phoebe
    Rose
    Rosalie
    Stella
    Scarlett
    Tess
    Tabitha
    Violet
    Victoria
    Willa

    Best wishes to you!

    Re: Sister for Tirza

Thanks, jill, for your reply! I would like baby girl's name to match the style/feeling of Tirza, that is a more unique, unusual or exotic name. And I'm hoping that somehow all four sibling names will generally work together--which is a tall order I think. I agree, Thea is too matchy.

Some other names on my list include:
    Adair
    Romy
Shiloh (though I don't really like the Brangelina association)
    Signe
    Waverly

And I especially like some that you proposed: Elodie, Esme, Tamsin. Many on your second list I'd consider for a middle name.

Thanks for your help! Any other comments or suggestions??

    Re: Sister for Tirza

I'd go for a closer Tirza match, too. (I actually went to school with a Tirza growing up, and it's a lovely name.) :-) I'm sure others will be along to comment, but I'm having fun with this in the meantime!

Adair: I'd keep this for a middle, because Tirza calls for a similarly femininely named sister.

Romy: What about Romilly, nickname Romy? What about Roma?

Shiloh (though I don't really like the Brangelina association): Yeah, this is too much of a Brangelina name, and feels too Southern paired with Hebrew Tirza.

Signe: I'd be worried about pronunciation troubles...

Waverly: This would be my choice from your list.

And I especially like some that you proposed: Elodie, Esme, Tamsin. Many on your second list I'd consider for a middle name.

    Other ideas:
    Bella
    Audra
    Adriana
    Calla
    Daria
    Honor
    Jessamine
    Noa
    Romilly
    Roma
    Sabrina
    Serena
Trista (Although I'm not sure if this is any less match than Thea...For non-matchy T names, I think I'd stick with Talia, Tamsin, or Tatiana...)

Sadie would be darling, but Zadie means Grandpa in Yiddish! :-)

Zadie is a really cute name, and it was a great suggestion! I just thought she may want to know about the whole grandpa thing, especially considering that Tirza is Hebrew! :-)
