    Ellis is the one pronounced how you want. To me its very masculine, but I do know someone with a sister called Ellis (who is in her mid-life 20s), so it's not unheard of

    I love Ellis for either a boy of girl. You're right that Elise would be EE-lees and have a hard E sound at the beginning, not an El sound. Ellis fits the pronunciation you're looking for and is very nice! I love how it's not frilly nor too masculine for a girl.
