What do you think of the name Reuben?

We are trying to find a way to honor my husband's father with a baby name. His name is Ben. Just Ben.

We've considered using Benedict, Bennett, and Benjamin as a middle name.

But today my 9-year-old suggested using Reuben as a first name, and calling him Benny -- and I actually kind of like it.

What do you think? Siblings are Julius and Clara, and while I don't think it's the best "fit" in terms of style match, I don't think it's jarringly different.

I actually think Julius, Clara and Reuben fit really well together!

I really like Reuben, especially with the nickname Ben/Benny! I also love the nn Ruby, but that's definitely not to everyone's taste.

If you and your husband really like it, then I think it's a winner! Also a cool story for your kids as they get older than his older brother helped choose his name!

I love it! Soft and rugged at the same time, gentle and lovely!

Reuben is such a great and unique way to honour a Ben and I like it with your kids names

I like Reuben. It's on my middle name list, along with Bennett, as an honour for Ben too. I dont think Reuben sounds out of place with Julius and Clara either. Benedict could also work as a first name

I like Reuben. It is rather rare. I have only ever heard of one Reuben in the last 20 years.

Reuben as a name has really grown on me, I would use it! I also like it with your other kids names.

I don't think I'd call a boy Ruby, but Roo (like from Winnie the Pooh) would be cute!

I think Reuben fits perfectly with Julius and Clara! All are classic, old fashioned names that you don't hear every day, but are still recognizable. I think it works great as a honor name for a Ben too, and Benny is an adorable nickname. Roo is my favorite nickname for Reuben personally, but if you're looking for a more obvious honor, then Benny is excellent as well!

I have to admit that it is closely associated with the sandwich for me. I do like the sound of it so it’s not necessarily a dealbreaker for me but something to consider.
