    Florence?

So I'm currently working on my "realistic" list of names (ones I can actually envision S/O and I using - surnames on girls are adorable but I'm not sold on the idea of using them myself after all??) and one of the options I'm on the fence about with is Florence.

Florence was on my list for years, starting when I was a teenager (like maybe 14-15?) and was my #1 choice until just a few years ago. I kind of went off it for some reason but now I'm beginning to love it again.

It's currently experiencing a bit of a revival, being in the top 1000 in the US once again, and having been popular in the UK for the last decade or so, lends itself to adorable NN options like Florrie and Flossie, it has the sweet, soft sounds that S/O and I seem to agree on for usable girls names, and it's unique enough that it would stand out, but familiar enough that it wouldn't cause confusion with spelling/pronunciation.

My only reservation is, is Florence too out dated? S/O and I have Harriet and Matilda on our list, but we connect those mainly to Harriet the Spy and the Matilda book/film, so there's a younger image we tie to it. We don't however know any young Florences or of any pop culture references.

Is Florence too fussy/fuddy-duddy? Too old?

    Thanks!
    haley.

Florence is great! And if anything is gaining momentum again. I don't think it'sputdated, but rather revived.

I think Florence is gorgeous and definitely not too old or fuddy-duddy!

That being said, she's great and I know you really like her, but I don't think she's for you? I can't imagine you with a Florence. A 'just Flossie' yes, but a Florence? Only if you also had Harriet and Matilda.
I can see you with a sibset of say Daisy, Ella and Matilda. Or Sophie, Eva and Harriet. But for some reason I can't imagine Chloe, Garrett and Florence. She just doesn't quite fit in your sibsets, from my point of view. Maybe to you she does, in which case I fully support the use of Florence!

tl:dr - I love Florence, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it as a name. I just don't know if it belongs in your sibsets.

I like Florence. I dont know any Florence's, young or old, so it doesnt feel like an old lady name. My only association is Florence Nightingale, a nice namesake, and the city, which is lovely.

I think Florence is great, and given the revival she’s having, I more imagine a little girl or young woman with the name, if anything. I definitely don’t think Florence is too old or dated.

I'm glad Florence isn't too outdated! I have toyed with the idea of just Florrie or just Flossie, but I'm not sure how they'd work in Canada :/
