    Help!

I am coming to the end of my pregnancy and we still do not have a name (first or middle!) for our second boy! We love nature names, but I prefer “quiet strength” type names, whereas my husband loves very strong names. Our last name is one syllable. We’d prefer to stay away from other S-sounding or C-starting names or names that also have the -er ending sound because of our first born’s name. I love the name Finn, but my husband does not because he can only think of a fish, so my top suggestion is Fennel (nn Fenn) as a variation. His top suggestion is Bear. Help!

How about Griffin nn. Fin? A Griffin connotes strength, but the sound is softer. Similarly Phoenix nn. Fin, or even Falcon nn. Fin.

How about Flynn if your husband dislikes Finn? I can only think of the herb with Fennel so it doesn’t quite seem like a name to me, although of course plenty of botanical words are also names! Bear is cute but I prefer it as a nickname, how about Orson nn Bear? Orson means ‘bear cub’.

Here are some other suggestions, some inspired by nature, some not:

    Phoenix
    Leo
    Caspian
    Rex
    Alistair
    Kai
    Roman
    Felix
    Grey
    Oscar
    Hudson
    Jem
    Dashiell
    Remy
    Gabriel
    Dane
    Otis
    Lennon
    Quinn
    Rory
    Monty
    Theodore
    Angus
    Callum
    Bastian
    Otto
    Raphael
    Jack
    Atlas

Sorry if these aren’t quite what you’re looking for!

Those are all great choices! I'm thinking of names that evoke the strength of Bear but still feel gentle and are more blatantly nature themed. How about:

    Flint
    Hawthorn (love this one!)
    Shale
    Hawk
    Slate
    Ridge
