    Anna or Arianna?

Hi! We just found out we’re expecting in March! We are elated! We haven’t found out the gender yet but will as soon as we can.

So, onto names. My grandmother’s name was Anne, and I always said I would name my daughter Anna as a way to honor her (she’s been gone almost 10 years).

My hubby loves Anna. We also came across Aria or Arianna. What are your thoughts? If we have a boy, we love the name Luca. I think either would work for sibling names but wanted opinions on Anna vs Arianna/Aria.

We would do Rose as the middle name - it was my husband’s grandfather’s favorite flower and he loved his rose garden. We love that we’re honoring them both.

My feeling is Anna is more classic whereas Aria /Arianna is different but may feel too trendy? Then by comparison is Anna boring?

    Thoughts appreciated! Thank you!

I adore Anna. I also adore Annabel and Anneline (a name I created). Anne is also an honor name for me (my late sister).

Anna Rose is gorgeous. I personally would end up calling her Anna Rose.

Anna all the way! I don't dislike Aria, though Arianna is not my style at all. But, I love Anna Rose as a whole name, and I think it most directly honors your grandmother. I also think Anna is more timeless, and I love the options of calling her Anna, Anne, Anna Rose, Annie, etc.

I'd go with Anna. It's a long time love of yours and an honour name. Aria is quite trendy, in fact I know a little Arya Rose who was just born this march. Arianna is less trendy than Aria but feels more removed from Anne who you want to honor.

To me Anna is the clear winner!

    Anna Rose, absolutely.
I'd call her both names as well- "Anna Rose"

I really like Anna Rose. It's lovely and classic, and Anna is currently ranked at #54, so it's not ridiculously common.

Arianna and Aria are pretty, but they DO feel really trendy.

On a similar note, we named our daughter Clara Joy. They were both family names, and while I tend to prefer names that are a little less common, and while I also considered trying to "dress up" her name a bit -- I'm really so, so glad we went with the simple and sweet family name.
