    Luke and Leah?

Our kids are James and Leah, and we’re expecting a boy! We love biblical names, and Luke is on our short list. I’m nervous it’s too Star Wars when we already have a Leah. (Pronounced Lee-ah, but still?) Am I overthinking it?

It is a pretty strong association. When I saw your heading, Star Wars immediately popped into my mind. On the other hand, they are both good lovely classic names and the association is not necessarily a bad one. The association will be there, but it just depends on whether it will bother you or not.

It isn't a bad association at all. I like the names together! I'd say go for it.

I don't think this is a problem at all. In Star Wars, her name is Leia (Lay-a). I agree that the name Leah is close, but there is still a noticeable difference IMO.

If you're concerned about Luke, why not use Lucas as an alternative?

    Other suggestions:
    Duke
    Jake
    Seth
    Jude

Star Wars was the first thing that popped into my mind. Even with the newer movies and a new generation growing up with them, that's a natural association. (Far more natural than Rey and Finn, for example.)

But if you don't mind the association, I say go for it. Luke and Leah are both nice names.

I thought Star Wars when I first saw it. The association isn’t a bad one, and Leah and Leia are different names. I like the suggestion of using Lucas as an alternative. I don’t think it will be that big of a deal though. If you like the names, go for it. They are both lovely names

I definitely thought Star Wars as soon as I saw the title of this post. I know Leah is pronounced Lee-ah but in my head, I still say Lay-ah when I see it with Luke, and would have to fight really hard to not say that out loud if I met a Leah with a brother Luke.
However, I don't think it's a bad association, just a question of whether or not the association (and the mix-up in pronunciation... maybe it's just me though) would bother you.

I would probably try to find an alternative...could be Lucas as mentioned, or John-Luke?
