    Names like Donna

So I love my grandmother and I want to give my first daughter a name like my grandmother's. However Donna is a name I only associate with older women. I want a longer name that can have girly nicknames for a child and is also respectful enough for an adult. Donna is too short and matronly for that. Please help me pay homage to a wonderful woman.

Dana might be a nice alternative. Some more ideas, some more far-fetched than others...

Diana - I think this would be a very beautiful name for a little girl! It has such classic roots, and topped with the Princess Diana association, I think it would be adorable.
Dawn - I think this name would sound a little dated as a fn, but as a middle I think it would sound unique and different.
Dorothy/Dorothea - a vintage name with lots of nn potential! I think this would fit best in terms of what you were looking for

Donna has the meaning of "lady" so another idea would be to find a name with that same meaning. How about...

    Freya/Freja
Lola - such a cute name!
    Isolde

Hope I could be of help!

When I hear "Donna," I can easily break it up into the "Do-" and "-na" sounds, so some names that also have those sounds are:

    Elena
    Fiona
    Luna

    Seraphina
Adeline Violet "Addie" ~ Anneliese Joy "Annie" ~ Cecelia Kay "Cece" ~
Colette Ingrid ~ Isla Wren ~ Lydia Belle ~ Maisie Charlotte ~ Quinn Ivy ~ Sadie Eleanor ~ Scarlett Audrey

Alexander James "Alex" ~ Andrew Scott ~ Austin Ford ~ Declan Oliver ~ Landon Joel ~ Maxwell Connor "Max" ~ Nathaniel Graham "Nate" ~ Parker Gavin ~ Theo Beckett ~ William Clark "Will"

Dana and Dina have the same consonant pattern as Donna, but feel younger/fresher. Some other ideas are: Danica, Daniella, Dara, Deona, Dijana, Doreena.
