    Normally, I think it is better to use a full version of a name for the birth certificate and use nicknames in everyday life, but I actually think Kate can certainly stand on her own! I know a Katie who is just Katie (not Katherine or anything else) and it works well for her, so Kate definitely should be okay!

    As a Kate, full name, I would say go for it. I think it's way more common as a full name now than when I was growing up in the 90's and constantly getting asked "what's that short for?" (which was my only complaint about my name). I almost never get asked that anymore.
