I agree with ikfly, Seamus is the Irish form of James, not Shay.

Would you consider a girls' name with the same/similar meaning as James?
The only one I can find is Jacqueline - apparently means supplanter (feminine form of Jacques which is, according to behindthename, a French form of Jacob, or James, which mean supplanter)

Alaric Asa Evander Ezra Jasper Leander Lucas Orion Perseus Ruairi

I totally love Shay and think it's so special!

I like the spelling Shaye though just a bit more.

I don't have a problem with honouring a man in a girl's name (through a variant or whatever), but I don't see how Shay honours James at all.

I think Shay is totally usable. There's the actress Shailene Woodley who was Tris in Divergent and is going to be Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars (Two major teen books turned into movies). I think because of her, Shay names will definitely increase in popularity. Other Shay names: Shauna, Shayla, Shailene, Shea. The only thing is, Shay is the phonetic spelling of Shea. Shea means "the stately, dauntless one."

Beatrice Flora Jane, Clara Felicity Kate, Rosalie Linnea Tess, Alexa Coralie Eve, Emmeline Alaska Sophie,
Charlie Jay, Gideon Bruce, Henry Liam

Also searching for ways to include:
Adeline, Avalon, Eliza, Greta, Imogen, Isla, Leora, & Winnie.
Asher, Caleb, Edwin, Felix, Grant, Hugo, Lachlan, Ronan, Rhett, & Wyatt.

I think it works. I also suggest Jemima.
