    River as a boys name?

Does it work? My husband and I really like it, though I worry it might sound a little too hippie, but it rolls off the tongue beautifully. The only Rivers we know of are River Phoenix (male) and the River characters from Dr. Who and Firefly (both female and more recent).

I adore River as a boy's name. I think it's beautiful and conjures gorgeous imagery. According to Nameberry (the best source! ), River is 2/3 used for boys and 1/3 for girls (
    Best of luck!

I love the name River. It is all boy to me. It has been on my guilty pleasure list for years. Would love to use it one day if the OH loved it too.

I would use Rio (River in spanish) as a nickname.
    Just a name lover.

    It's a great name!
There's a boy named River on my son's soccer team. He's 16 yo, and a cool kid.

River is one of my guilty pleasures too! I would never use it because I'm the least outdoorsy person there is and River has a very naturey vibe in my opinion. I have never heard of a girl named River. If you really like it, go for it
