Help! is it ok for my new puppy's name to rhyme with...

    Hi guys,

Would really appreciate your advice on this!

Our new little black lab pup is coming home this week and we want to call him Ted/Teddy. But it's just dawned on me today that naming him Ted may be an issue because it rhymes with bed. Does anyone think it could be difficult to train him to 'go to bed' if his name is Ted??

I hope not because I love the name but I don't want to confuse the little guy!

    Thanks berries!

I had a dog named Beau, and it rhymed with no, so it was an issue. We changed it to Bay, so it was okay.

In your case, the easiest thing to do would be to just call him Teddy.

    Congrats on your new puppy!

Thanks for your advice! A friend has also suggested giving a different command for bed if it proves to be a problem. 'Bedtime' or something like that!

I don't think I have ever told my dogs to "go to bed." I didn't realize that was a common training phrase. We used "go lie down."

I don't think it will be an issue especially if you decide to use Teddy more often.

Lexie has a kennel, I put here in there at night, all I say is "Kennel!" and she walks right in and lays down
