I do believe in democracy and freedom of choice but I'm becoming so disheartened and angry with some of the names being given to children these days that that I'm really liking the idea of having a name tribunal. Here is how it would work in my ideal world.
When a parent registers a child, someone of impartial judgement, common sense and good taste with only the future of the children in mind, has to review the name and give it his/her stamp of approval. If a name combo is rejected, the "name judge" would have to write out a logical reason why this decision was made. The parents would then have to write down why they named their baby ABCDEY and if the name judge feels that it was a thoughtful choice after long, careful consideration, the initial rejection can be reversed. If the parents' replies were lacking in cohesion, illogical, lazy, insincere, senseless, offensive, ridiculous, negligent, unreasonable or had complete disregard of the teasing potential that their child may face, the original ruling of "name judge" would stand and the parents would be given a month to come up with a better choice and present the new name at a future time.
Some general rules that the name tribunal would follow:
(1) No name shall be given that would cause ridicule, embarrassment, guilt or shame for the child (an amorist means " a person who is dedicated to love, especially sexual love". REJECT.
(2) No over-the-top creative spellings that would cause eyes to water or brains to explode in an attempt to spell or pronounce it (Kehdyn and Zepplynn may be related). REJECT. Caden and Zeppelin - APPROVE
(3) No name that looks like a child punched random letters on a computer (I'm looking at you, Jaybee Z) REJECT.
(4) No name that emphasizes one child is more special than any other human being (I believe that all children are Miracles so one should not be singled out). REJECT.
I'm really enjoying this exercise far too much so I think I'll stop there!
Thank you for posting, Sabrinafair! All the best,

I don't like:
Jewels - Jules is fine. Jewels is not.
Arcade Edward - I love Edward, but Arcade??
Annual D - It's with great shame that I say I giggled at this.
Lynyrd - Is his middle name Skynyrd?
Elliot - I become so angry every time I see this on a girl
Harley Quinn - I groan every time I see this
Zepplynn - no
Kehdyn - just no
Renesmaee Isabella - The mother has to be a fourteen-year-old Twilight fan...
Jaybee - My first thought was Justin Bieber.
Secret - something tells me she's not a secret anymoreHelen ♢ Georgia ♢ Daphne ♢ Alice ♢ Rose
