My former colleague had a little boy named Emerson, and they nicknamed him Emo (pronounced ee-moe). It was really cute on a little boy! As an older kid or teen, I think using the full name of Emerson is fine.

Now this really does sound crazy, but I like both Emer and Emi! And somehow changing the spelling makes it more a little boy's name for me! I've never been with that idea (changing spelling changes connotation), but it is working for me here!

I am also liking Emer. I think when it is an Irish girl's name, it is pronounced differently -- EE-mer instead of eh-mer or even m-er.

I went to school with an Emerson who went by just Em a lot. He's my best friend's guy best friend and she always called him Emmy which is also what she calls me instead of Emily. It got confusing a lot. But if you name your son Emerson he's bound to just be shortened to Em in my experience.

I'd say go for it though, cause I like that name!

I like Emmett a lot so I feel your pain!

I like E.J. or other initial nicknames but a lot of people despise them, especially on nameberry. I still think EJ sounds a lot more masculine than Emmy though. Em might make it to unisex. Maybe.
