    I adore River. Ry seems like it's short for something else. River is very handsome, and you could always call him Rio for short.

    River is cool. Ry is not (IMO). Ry sounds way too much like the nickname for Ryan (or perhaps Rylan). Some nicknames might work as given names, but Ry just feels insignificant and chopped off.

    River - while I wouldn't use it myself - Is a beautiful, calm, nature name. I like it.
