    Is it a nickname?

Is Wiley a nickname for William or can it stand on its own?

In this day and age, it can be whatever you want! I've heard Wiley as a first name, as its a lot like Riley, I don't think anyone would be too shocked or confused. It could also be a cute nickname for Wylan or even Wyatt.

If you're pronouncing it like Willy (will-ee), I wouldn't recommend it as a stand alone name! The financial aid coordinator at my college goes by Willie Pitz. It's so silly.

If you're asking if Wiley COULD BE a nickname for William, I say definitely! And a very cute one, too.

I pronounce Wiley just like Wylie (WHY-lee), you know, the coyote. It definitely stands on its own. If you are pronouncing it like willy, like "wet willy" then I would say no.
