Odessa is on my extended list. I prefer it to Dessa. With that said, if it's for the MN, go with what has meaning
Loving: Lilith Delphine, Daphne Elisabeth, Eleanor Lilac and my GP Amaryllis Clio
William Dougal, Rupert Theodore and my GP Augustin Sage

Celestia, Opal, Agatha, Mabel, Delphine, Lilith, Magnolia, Eleanor, Olympia, Harriet, Daphne, Nora, Tabitha, Lilac, Saffron, Wilhelmina, Clio, Amaryllis
Vaughn, Sterling, Samson, Sage, Rupert, Hugo, August, Stellan, Dougal, Sydney, Theodore, William

I think Dessa is most likely a short form of Odessa (A Russian place name). As a middle name, anything goes, especially something honoring a family member. However, I would advice against Dessa as a first name, but it works its magic beautiful in the middle name slot.

Just sounds like a nickname for Odessa to me.

I would also guess that Dessa is a shortened form of Odessa.

I know a Dessa. She is in her early thirties, successful, intelligent, artistic, and beautiful! I think it's a great name.
