  1. I like names that are a little offbeat for characters in my stories, but in real life not so much. I can't imagine giving my real child a name that people can't pronounce when they read it or spell it when they hear it. I think it's the teacher in me that is tired of figuring out names of students. I like names that are familiar, but not as common today. Names of my childhood friends that others say are dated are some of my favorites (think Amy, Whitney, Todd, Scott, etc.). I do like some less popular names as well (Ivy, Maeve, Emmett, Nolan), but these would probably not fly with the hubster. I appreciate variety and love others thoughts on names. I like meeting kids with names that I don't hear a lot today, even if they were popular 10 years ago. So as much as I love Ava, I'll never use it as long as it's in the top 20.
