Summer Baby Names: Hottest picks of the season

Summer is officially here—a time of sea and sun and sandy beaches…and summer baby names. And luckily for the baby due to be born in this season, there are a number of names that are specific to this time of year, some of them more apparent than others. Here are Nameberry’s picks for best summertime names.

Summer

To begin with the most obvious: Summer is the second most popular seasonal name of the year after Autumn, on the list since the early 70’s. It is now at Number 188 and even higher in England and Wales. Summer makes a particularly pleasant middle, and has been used as such by Forest Whitaker and Sarah McLaughlin.

I’m surprised by how many of these summer baby names I love considering summer in Houston is my least favorite season (of course, we only really get two seasons anyway).

Adore Summer and Autumn. I’m loving all August names right now, with plain August being the leader (how cute is the nickname Auggie?) I like Sunny, for a girl, but am not sure I could give that as a first name. Love Bay, thanks to Switched at Birth, but am not sure I could see this name growing up too well with a child. Though Bay Kennish wears it well as a teenager. I love Maren, Marin and Marine.

I love these illustrations, first off!

August has been on my list for years, as a way to get to Gus which has been one of my favorite names for about a decade!

Also on my list are Augusta, Maren, Bay (as a nn for Baylor on a boy), and Lake (as a nn for Laken).

I had never considered Sunny, but for some reason reading this blog post, I started to kind of fall for it. I definitely wouldn’t use it as a nn for Sunshine though. Sunniva?

These are all very lovely, but Bay reminds me of Beyoncé (her nickname is Bey pronounced Bay mostly) so it seems kind of silly. 😛 I recognize that many won’t have this association, however.

I love some of SoDallas’ Choices: Summer, Marisol, Dune, Ronan and Reid (esp for a girl)!
I have always loved summer for a girl, although finding a suitable middle is a bit more difficult!

Summer Aletha

Summer Marisol

Summer Calista

Ronan Dune is awesome for a boy!

Reid Elyse

Just FYI, Océane is pronounced “oh-SAY-ane” in French.
