Hot Young Hunks with Cool Names

Have you noticed that most of the up-and-coming female stars in Hollywood have ordinary names like Anne and Amy, Emily and Emma and Ellen—while many of the hot young Hollywood hunks have unusually interesting and cutting-edge appellations like Chord and Chace? Most of them are their actual birth names—and a few have already had an influence on baby naming. Here are the most noteworthy–providing some great eye candy as well.

Shia LaBeouf

Picture 11 of 12

Shia (rhymes with hiya) LaBeouf got his start on the Disney Channel before moving on to more adult roles in movies like Disturbia and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. He inherited his distinctive Hebrew first name from his Polish-born comedian maternal grandfather.

The only one I LOVE is Rupert, and I really do love it. I don’t mind the use of Columbus and Benedict is far from offensive.

Almost 100% of the others seem absurd to this Australian. I think we have quite different ideas of what’s cool here and are very much more in line with the UK.

Channing is the most ridiculous.

Love that you included Skandar. He’s sort of off the radar now-days, but I thought his name had potential when he was on the screen.

Also, that’s hilarious that Armie Hammer has the same name as a Baking Soda.

Skandar! I’ve loved that nickname for the oft-chosen Alexander ever since I read about him when the first movie came out.
Most of the others are not my style but I have a huge soft spot for Rupert.
Oh and I love the meaning & thought behind Chord Overstreet’s name.

I love Benedict, Chord, and Penn. I also quite like Rupert, though it’s not a name I would likely use myself.

I love Chace, Chord and Penn. I thought about using Penn for a minute, but we live in Pennsylvania so I thought it’d be weird. I’ve loved Chase since the movie Drive Me Crazy came out and I like Chace just as much. And I think Chord is so cool, I think about it every time I watch Glee. I’ve thought “Court” as in Courtney was nice for a guy, and Chord has the same sound but isn’t feminine and has that musical quality. I’m not a musician, but I do love music… Not sure if it’d be weird for a non-musician to use.

I love Benedict and Rupert. Chase (I prefer this spelling) is a guilty pleasure, mainly because I have a huge crush on Chace Crawford. Skander is cool. The only one I’d avoid totally right now, is Penn, because it reminds me of the whole Penn State scandal.

This supports the theory that often all a name needs is a good-looking face attached to it and people will embrace it. I think Kellan would have been popular without a famous namesake, but I imagine a few years ago Rupert and Armie would have gotten flack even from name people. I think my favorite is Chord.

I love the name Kellen…..but I have to be honest, I have liked the name Kellen much longer than Kellan Lutz has been famous. Maybe Kellan Lutz just helped to popularize that particular spelling of his name, and the name was already gaining popularity on its own?

I have a soft spot for names that begin with A and end in “ie” such as Armie and Albie. Armie Hammer probably brought me round to this name.

No Jensen Ackles? 🙁 Jensen/Jenson is gaining popularity in the UK because of Jenson Button, and I figure it’s only a matter of time before Jensen makes his way to the States.

Then again, the problem with Jensen is that Supernatural appeals to a very specific audience. Most people wouldn’t know who Jensen Ackles was even if you showed them a picture.

Sad to see that Hobbits actor Richard Crispin Armitage wasn’t included on the list. Well, ok, he’s over 40 so maybe he’s not “young” enough for this blog and his first name Richard isn’t as “cool” as some of the names but his middle name of Crispin is awesome! Just saying…

I was kinda hoping to see Norman Reedus on this list, but then it occured to me that he’s not exactly young…still pretty hot though! Anyway, I love Skandar, such a cute name!

Jensen Ackles and Shiloh Fernandez are missing.

I quite like Shia

1. I don’t think Benedict will ever take off in America. All I can here is Benedict Arnold, the traitor.
2. Jensen Ackles… he was a Soap Star before Supernatural, and I think his name will take off soon enough. It’s got a great sound.

As for this list, Kellen is on our list, but that’s it. Chase/Chace is very mainstream in Iowa, so even though I like it, I wouldn’t use it. And the others, aren’t what we’re looking for. 🙂

I’ve had a longtime love of Shia/Shiah and Cam. Also love Channing & Chord (the names, don’t care either way about the actors)

I had no idea that trouty mouth’s name was Chord – interesting! Chord’s brother is named Nash, so I wonder what stopped them from continuing the musical theme? (Nash Overstreet plays lead guitar for the band Hot Chelle Rae – I am incredibly embarrassed for knowing this, but I’m an unashamed Gleek, so I have googled Chord Overstreet before. >_< )

Ok, I thought Chords name was Corey, lol – that’s what I meant to say >_<

I am Australian and I disagree with ninkynonk.
Parents in Australia are already embracing celebrity names eg. Keanu (I know one. Channing isn’t ridiculous, its just uncommon, and would appeal to a certain naming style.
I like Chace, Kellan, Channing the most!

Jensen Ackles is certainly well known enough. I know who he is and I’ve never watched an episode of Supernatural in my life. There are others on this list who I’m less familiar with.

What about Ansel Elgort? He was in the Fault in Our Stars and Divergent. I think the name Ansel is actually really cool, but I probably wouldn’t have noticed it without him.
